- Tripwire :
(Commercial for commercial unicies and open source one is free for open source OS: linux-freeBSD)
The most fundamental component of any system's infrastructure, Tripwire's IA technology
monitors all servers and clients on a network, detecting and reporting any changes to critical system
or data files. Tripwire can absolutely, unequivocally determine if a protected file has been altered
in a way that violates the policy set by the administrators. This ensures that any change,
whether due to an external intruder or internal misuses, will be identified and documented on a timely basis.
Tripwire software was originally
developed at Purdue University by world-renowned computer security expert Dr. Eugene Spafford and Gene Kim,
now Chief Technology Officer at Tripwire. The company's commercial versions expand the features
and offer more sophisticated reporting capabilities as well as technical support of the software.
Tripwire software is available for Linux, Sun Solaris and SPARC, Microsoft Windows NT, HP-UX,
SGI IRIX, Compaq Tru64 and IBM AIX operating systems.
