Introduction

The body of each paragraph should contain data, evidence and support for the paragraph and of course for your argument as a whole.  We will explore what data, evidence and support mean and some common errors.  

Goal

Explore what is meant by data, evidence and support.
Discuss writing problems

Objectives

Examine good journal articles that write about Figures and Tables.
Examine good student papers that write "to" Figures and Tables.
Examine whether a simple citation is adequate to support an idea?  (Compare your paper to the "classic" literature review).

Activity

Break into small groups.
    Discuss use of a table in a paragraph (literature)
    Discuss use of a figure in a paragraph (literature)
    Examine some student papers
        Good and bad examples
    Share your paragraph and discuss inprovements with your colleagues.

Assignments

Be prepared to discuss what is meant by data, evidence, support.
Bring one of your paragraphs that shows good development of data, evidence and/or support.


Time Commitment

2 hours of rewriting.
0.25 h thinking about dataand evidence.

1% Attendance; 1% bring one of your paragraphs that shows good development of data, evidence and/or support.
