Post 10/22/2008 Updated Sociology Matrix
We are SO close on this!

Please take a look at the changed matrix once more to make absolutely sure that the courses at your campus are listed on this matrix. Email me, selkins@montana.edu with any changes no later than tomorrow, Thursday, 10/23, 11am. I know there are some unresolved issues with 300/400 level courses and social psychology courses. However, beside those courses, the matrix must be accurate.

The data source will be the 'by campus' tab on the matrix so it is VERY important that your courses are listed correctly on that tab.

Thank you again for your participation, guidance, and patience in this process.

Sincerely,
Sarah

There are still some corrections to be made.

At MSU Bozeman, MSU Billings and UM: Classical Sociological Theory (SOCI 455) is what the upper division social theory is to be called and numbered. It is not SOC 305 (as the matrix still says for MSU) or social theory (as the matrix still says for all the offerings). It’s on the learning outcomes page.

At MSU Bozeman, SOC 307 should be “Sociology of Childhood and Adolescence” (not of).

At MSU Bozeman, SOC 335 (Law & Inequality) will need a number higher than SOC 435 (Law & Society), because it is a more specialized course. Because it is a unique course to MSU, this should not be require coordinating with anyone else but the number does need to be changed.

At MSU Bozeman, SOC 400 (Senior Seminar) should not translate into the capstone course (SOCI 499). SOCI 494 (Seminar/Workshop) is more appropriate.

In addition, early in our FLOC's work we moved towards focusing on sociology courses. As a result, numerous courses originally included in our matrix by the Commissioner's Office were removed from consideration and deferred to other FLOCs (present and future). Courses in areas such as Anthropology, Psychology, Religious Studies, Health and Human Development, Criminal Justice, Education, Native American Studies, etc. should be considered by faculty groups in those areas.

Since that time, however, additional courses outside the area of sociology have been added to our matrix. Some have been assigned course numbers and names in sociology. In the spirit that originally motivated our work, those courses should be removed. A list of those courses is attached in spreadsheet form.

FLOCs in other areas should examine this list and determine which courses are appropriate for them to consider.

I located one additional non-sociology course in addition to the list posted by Sue Monahan.
line 182 in "by campus" listing: BFCC PSY 280 Social Psychology
